Tajikistan is one of the five Central Asian Republics (CAR´s), which were part of the USSR in former times. After seceding in 1992 the country faced a civil war, which was settled in 1995. However, Tajikistan is one of the poorest countries in the world.
In February 2003 the Asian Development Bank ordered an Urban Environmental Profile. I travelled to TAJ and collected tons of data on water, waste water, air pollution and waste problems. The final report has not been published (yet?). On the website you can find some impressions:
