BLOEMFONTEIN (SÜDAFRIKA)
MACHBARKEITSSTUDIE

Funding: KfW Entwicklungsbank
KFW_logoSchedule:
2/2010-6/2011

Head of project: Infrastruktur & Umwelt (Darmstadt, Germany)
Project management: Dr. Florian Kölsch

Location: Bloemfontein (Free State, South Africa)

Idea:
In urban areas of South Africa the waste treatment level is low. Normally the waste is disposed in technically insufficient disposal sites. The situation:

RSA 1
Slaughterhouse waste on the disposal sites

RSA 2

Insufficient recycling

RSA 3

Burning electronic scrap

Aim:

Possible improvements should be analysed in the feasibility study and a new waste management concept should be developed. An integral element were the analysis of waste amounts and waste composition.

RSA 4

Waste sorting

Result:

The future waste management concept provides a bundle of measures, especially recycling, composting of green waste and dry fermentation of residual waste.
